Federal Member for Jagajaga, Assistant Minister for Social Security, Women and Ageing
Kate has served as the Federal Member for Jagajaga in Melbourne’s north-eastern suburbs since
2019, having previously worked in journalism, international aid, the public service and government.
On 29 July 2024, Kate was sworn in as the Assistant Minister for Social Security, Ageing and Women.
She is the author of ‘Enough Is Enough’, about making the Australian Parliament a safe place for
women, written with former MP Jenny Macklin. She holds a BA (Journalism) and a Master of
International Development.
Kate entered politics because she believes that we need to have new conversations around the
serious challenges we face us as a country, including climate change, rising social inequality, and
supporting vital services such as the NDIS and aged care.
Kate lives in Jagajaga with her husband and two children.
